The Problem Statement…
A small-scale farmer experiences difficulty managing their equipment lending business when relying on an outdated paper-based accounting system in a remote village.
This is a problem because it leads to inefficiency, exhaustion, and limits the ability to scale the business, negatively impacting both the user experience and overall business efficiency.
The Solution…
Ensuring that the app is easy to use, even for people with little or no prior experience with technology.
The app maintains consistency in its design, offers simplicity in its interface, and employ a clean information architecture to seamlessly guide users through their tasks while minimizing cognitive load.
Making sure that the app is visually appealing and easy to read, even for users with visual impairments or limited literacy
Providing visual cues like text instructions using size, color and contrast to draw the eye. Adding shapes and graphs to guide users and creating visual metaphors with icons.
Providing multiple language support, so that the app can be used by people who speak different languages.
The app has the option of allowing users to navigate and use it in their own language.
Controls at a glance
Raw data is silent and for each of the possible cases, users need to be informed.
The platform provides a clear vision of a farm: from a bird eye perspective to very narrow details and highlighting the most importing piece of information.

White paper research: Unlocking Opportunities
Introduction
India's agriculture sector is not only a cornerstone of its economy but also a vital source of livelihood for approximately 55% of its population. With the world's largest cattle herd, extensive wheat, rice, and cotton plantations, and leading production in milk, pulses, and spices, agriculture is a bedrock of the nation's identity. Furthermore, the Indian food processing industry, accounting for 32% of the total food market, is poised for exponential growth, underlining its significance in the global food trade.
Market Size
According to Inc42, the Indian agricultural sector is forecasted to reach an impressive US$ 24 billion by 2025. India's food and grocery market ranks sixth worldwide, with retail contributing to 70% of sales. With exports of agricultural and processed food products reaching US$ 43.37 billion in FY23, the sector remains a powerhouse. Agriculture and allied sectors now contribute 18.3% to India's GDP, marking their vital role in the nation's economic fabric.
The Road Ahead
India's agriculture sector is poised for continued growth, driven by investments in infrastructure, genetically modified crops, and fisheries.
As India continues to transform its agriculture sector, it offers immense opportunities for technological advancements and innovation.
With strong government support, growing investments, and a commitment to modernization, the future holds great promise for Indian farmers and the nation as a whole. The path ahead is one of prosperity and sustainable growth.
The data not only highlights the substantial size and significance of India's agriculture sector but also underscores the need for a digital transformation of conventional processes in agriculture.
The expanding agriculture sector, government support, global investment, and the need for sustainability all point to a growing demand for digital tools like an accounting app tailored to the unique needs of small-scale farmers engaged in equipment lending. Such an app can improve efficiency, transparency, and financial management, contributing to the overall development and success of the agriculture sector in India.
Understanding the User
With the primary objective of understanding the needs, preferences, and pain points of small-scale farmers who lend farming tools and equipment as a business, I conducted 1 on 1 online user interviews and Surveys.
User interview questions were framed to:
Identify the current accounting practices and challenges faced by small-scale farmers in managing their lending business.
Understand the specific accounting needs and priorities of farmers in the context of lending equipment.
Assess the level of digital literacy and technology adoption among the target audience.
Gather insights into the preferred features and user interface elements for an accounting app.
Our target audience was a group of small-scale farmer in rural India who engages in equipment lending as a supplementary source of income. They value simplicity, time efficiency, and community trust.
Designing an accounting app for such users requires a user-friendly interface, minimal reliance on data connectivity, and affordability.
Balwinder's persona highlights the importance of addressing the needs of users with limited tech experience and resources in rural settings.
The data brought to light the key discoveries:

Farming Reimagined
Data collection, tracking and its representation is a
key to any successful business as it helps business owners and managers to make actionable and educated decisions.
Passing knowledge and experience to younger generation may be challenging. The platform is easy to use and allows both generations to adopt it quicker and easier.
The initial design was input driven, required intensive user action and it was focused on the needs of the client.
The data previously was scattered and was located in multiple offline locations.
After brainstorming several different ways to implement those features, and narrowing down the options based on User needs, client cost & feedback, time frame, and other considerations.
